About

Born and raised in Denton, Jill graduated from Denton High School. She earned a B.A. at the University of Oklahoma, where she majored in history and political science and minored in English.

After graduation, Jill lived first in London, then in Austin, where she studied theater at the University of Austin. A move to Chicago followed, where she studied at the Second City Conservatory and honed her skills writing shows and performing.

Because of her interest in production Jill soon found herself working as an independent contractor in freelance film and television work for such companies as Touchstone, Universal, Disney, ABC, NBC, HGTV, Discovery Channel and the NBA.

After her father was diagnosed with cancer, Jill decided a career change was in order. She enrolled in South Texas College of Law (STCL), where she earned her Juris Doctorate. During law school, she was selected to serve as a Judicial Intern for Chief Bankruptcy Judge Westley W. Steen, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas.

Jill also qualified as a Certified Mediator at the Frank Evans Center for Conflict Resolution, a center within STCL.

In 2010, Jill joined her father, Tom Jester, in his law practice in Denton. Jill and her husband, Chris Rasmussen, soon became deeply involved in the Denton community, giving back through non-profits and business organizations. Upon her father’s death four years later, Jill became the senior partner in Minor & Jester, P.C.

Today, Jill is a Fellow of the College of the State Bar of Texas and a member of the Texas State Bar Real Estate, Probate, Trusts Law Section. She also holds memberships in the Denton Bar Association and the Texas Association of Bank Counsel. She is admitted to practice in all state courts in Texas, the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Texas; and the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Texas.

Family History of Service

Service to the Denton community was instilled in Jill from childhood by her parents. Her late father, Tom Jester, served as Mayor of Denton, and, prior, as a Denton City Council member and the City of Denton Municipal Judge. Tom also was President of the Denton County Bar Association, a Director of the Denton Chamber of Commerce, and an active member of Rotary Club and the American Cancer Society. Jill’s mother, Barbara, served on the Chamber of Commerce Board and was a member of the first class of Denton Benefit League, which, today, has raised more than $6.5 million for non-profits in the Denton area.

As a young lawyer, Tom Jester joined the practice of Fred Minor, who practiced law in Denton from 1917 to 1976. Minor served as chair of the Denton County Democratic Party and represented Denton in the Texas Legislature 1926-33, including service as Speaker of the House in the Texas Legislature.
